It is a giant step for your child to take from Primary 4 to Primary 5. Why?
1. New topics will be introduced.
Across all three subjects, English, Math and Science, P5 will be a year full of excitement but for those unprepared. New information can be overwhelming and instead of feeling confident, students can easily get lost into the motion of practicing but not fully understanding the topics.
2. The difficulty level will be heightened.
No longer simple rules and simple facts, more complicated concepts needs to be navigated through. These difficult concepts not only need to be learnt but they should be mastered as 60% of what is taught in P5 is going to be tested on for PSLE.
If students become uncomfortable with the influx of new topics, they will be discouraged. They will ask themselves, When I was in P4 I was doing very well but now, why can't I barely cope?" Many times parents realise that their child is struggling but usually, it would be too late by then.
3. More workload and definitely, more stress
It is definitely hard on the child who has to acquire new knowledge, practice it, understand it, memorise it and excel in it, in just a short amount of time. Due to the number of new topics being introduced for the first time, improvement is barely monitored and before you know it, another pile of new information will be bombarded upon the child. Getting started early and keeping a consistent pace is very important.
All concepts taught in P3 and P4 in each respective subjects will be covered wholly and thoroughly explained with examples and anecdotes.
In order to absorb new information, the foundation of old topics needs to be strengthened.
These concepts are the foundation of the new topcs which will also be covered.
Having a heads up of what is about to come in P5 will give your child an edge over others and they will feel even more confident.
Tests will be given out at the end of class for each topic to find out if they can successfully apply what they have learnt.
The difficulty level of our test will let yout child know where he or she stands. Once they know where they stand, they would be able to gauge what to focus on more, what is lacking and through the test, get to also know the difficulty level to expect in P5.
This will prepare them for the year ahead.
The feedback session will summarize the strengths and weaknesses of your child in each subject with useful information you need to decide your child's curriculum for next year.
Only with repeated practice and constant reminders can a child retain all the knowledge being passed on in school.
Therefore, we suggest regular classes for those interested in maximising their potential.
However, this bridging course do provide enough leverage for your child to be at ease with the unnerving changes to come.
2 days of English, Mon & Tue, 11am-4.30pm
The English language contains strict rules hence a systematic approach to every component is introduced to our students with an in-depth review of questions in order to derive at the perfect answers.
3 days of Mathematics, Wed-Fri, 10.15am-1.30pm
In 3 days, we will be covering all Must-Know problem-solving concepts that will be tested in the PSLE.
3 Days of Science, Wed-Fri, 2pm-5.15pm
We have structured the P5 Bridging Course for Science just like a revision checklist, where students make use of their holidays to revise in an enjoyable, helpful and non-stressful way. This course will be extremely useful for P4 students who have trouble remembering Lower Block Science concepts and keywords that they have learnt in school. Without a strong foundation, students often stumble in P5 as the syllabus gets tougher with more content and application of process skills. Not only are students expected to retain information they have learnt since P3, they also learn new Upper Block content, such as Cycles and Systems.
In this course, students will recap important Lower Block Science concepts and with the opportunity to clarify misconceptions in class. We will also introduce Upper Block concepts taught in P5, giving students a headstart and an idea of what would be expected. More emphasis is placed on content revision spread over a period of 3 days.

What if my child is not that interested in learning and just want to play? Will he/she get distracted in a group setting?
Usually in the midst of the first lesson, teachers can already identify their learning style and would tweak the lessons according to what the students need to stay engaged.
Will there be homework given? / What kind of materials would my child be getting?
No homework shall be given and your child will be getting booklets which contains questions and notes regarding each topic of the subject.
Do I need to bring food for my child?
Here in Our Learning Lodge, we do not want them to get distracted in class and hence, if they were to have back to back lessons throughout morning and afternoon, lunch will be provided. Students can also purchase snacks during their breaks to fill their tummies from our cafe.
What can we do as parents to be involved in our child's revision?
Our Learning Lodge treasures our relationship with parents as we know that parents play a major role in educating our students. Should there be any concerns, feel free to raise the issues and we will be united in dealing with any complications.

During this time, Jun Hang would share how his teacher used prompts, group activities and rewards. She would adapt to the students’ learning ability by providing additional practices, taking into account every student’s needs. OLL is not just another tuition centre, but a professional school that understands students’ needs, providing customization, targeting of weaknesses and reinforcement of strengths.
